The four wheel jacket' is an environmental artwork I did in a course at the Agriculture University of Iceland. We often find inspiration in weird places and this time I came across a comment on facebook:
The project was meant to draw attention to the heavy use of cars that modern society faces in a humorous way.
We have become so lazy that we don't have the time to park our metal jackets a few meters away from the entrance so instead we often drive for a long time, waiting and hoping to find the perfect parking space, beating the purpose that we went by car "to safe time".
This project was also a reflection upon myself. Since I started studying at the AUI, I have been pondering the same two questions every time I go out: “Why do I go by car now? ”and“ What would need to change for me so that I prefer cycling or walking?”. I have made these questions guide me in my career choice and the search for an answer continues.
"Here in Akranes, people use cars for coats."

There are just over 7.500 people living in Akranes.
The area of the municipality is only 9 km² in total.
And this is the 9.800 m² of the asphalt coat hanger for all the four wheel jackets located in the center of the town.
